Murcia, who operates KocinA Food Truck and KocinA Grill, will serve up scrumptious samplings of spinach empanadas, chicken arepas, sweet plantains and Cotija cheese. Born in Colombia, Murcia brings his homeland’s authentic Latin cuisine to his dishes. During the evening, learn about upcoming programs for the yearlong celebración Latino Americans: 500 Years of History.
Brüeprint Brewing Company of Apex will host a tasting of craft beers, so sample away. The beer tasting is organized by the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild.
Hidden Stories of Abandoned Places
From 6:30 to 8 p.m., catch the program Hidden Stories of Abandoned Places, when photographers, filmmakers and others will share examples of their work and join a panel discussion. The panelists will reflect on their personal connections to places they have documented. Hear their intriguing stories during this program inspired by the museum’s exhibit Rural Revival: Photographs of Home and Preservation of Place, on view through Sunday, Sept. 27.

Yard Art Day is a grassroots arts exhibition, curated by the community for the community. The annual LABOR DAY event will take place for 24 hours and is for anyone and all to express themselves creatively despite their age or level of expertise. Art of all mediums is allowed – from hula hooping to sculpture – whatever your artistic heart desires.
The Yard Art Day art project invites everyone to celebrate their creative spirit by displaying or performing their own works of art for 24 hours in their front yards or balconies for the public. Looking for some inspiration? Follow our Pinterest Page or Like our Facebook Page. (Yard Art Day).

From Dressage to Hunter/Jumper, Pleasure Carriage Driving to In-Hand classes and much more, AHA invites the residents of Raleigh-Durham and surrounding areas to come out and see the best equine athletes in the industry. Class sessions begin respectively at 8am, 1pm and 7pm.
The show is FREE to the public and also offers the Total Arabian Interactive Learning (T.A.I.L) tours on Thursday, September 17 at 6pm; Friday, September 18 at 4pm and 6pm; and on Saturday, September 19 at 10am. and 2pm.
Tours are FREE and open to all ages. Tours are led by an expert guide and invite attendees to participate in a behind-the-scenes view of the show. Kids and families on the tour will meet Arabian horses, watch classes and take home information on the Arabian horse. Additionally, the Sport Horse National Show is hosting a silent auction to benefit the Duke Children’s Hospital and the Arabian Horsemen’s Distress Fund (AHDF). During the 1960s and 1970s, Mexican Americans, frustrated by persistent discrimination and poverty, found a new way forward through social action and the building of a new “Chicano” identity. Professor Kristy Ulibarri of East Carolina University will lead a discussion after the screening. The program is presented in partnership with N.C. State University Libraries.
The documentary film is from the six-part, NEH-supported award-winning series “Latino Americans,” created for PBS in 2013 by the WETA public television station. The series chronicles the history of Latinos in the United States from the 16th century to present day.

Join hundreds of local area residents on Sunday, September 20th at Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary for the 1st annual Triangle Area Out of the Darkness Community Walk. Sponsored by the NC Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the walk will raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention and will help reduce the stigma associated with suicide and mental illness. Funds raised help bring important AFSP research, education, advocacy and survivor programs to our local community.
AFSP is the leading non-profit organization dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.
With suicide claiming more than 38,000 lives each year in the US, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater. With each step taken at this event, our walkers save lives, honor loved ones lost to suicide and raise funds to support AFSP's vital mission. Please join us!

The German artist Christine Hager-Braun (former biochemist) will present art quilts that refer to stages of her life. Themes of the various series are all revolving around interactions or purposefully avoiding contacts. The series "More Than Just the Sum" is inspired by microscopic images, concentrating on interactions. In contrast, "Wide Open Spaces" is a collection of art quilts that focuses on solitude. "Walls and Borders" comprises several pieces that deal with isolation but also overcoming separation.

This fundraising event is Fuquay-Varina’s way of supporting the upcoming, regional International Bluegrass Festival AND for people to enjoy a friendly, competitive, delicious BBQ Cook-Off. Guests are encouraged to visit 3 contest zones to sample delicious BBQ, savor a great & unique selection of craft beers and enjoy a variety of bluegrass and blues music provided by our event partners, Aviator Brewery, Draft Line Brewery, the Brick Bar & Grill, and the Fainting Goat Brewing Co.
The BBQ Cook-Off is designed to be easy, laid back, fun and PROFITABLE for contestants as they compete for bragging rights and Prize Money. This contest is NOT a KCBS sanctioned event.

In the 1980s the nature of the Latino Diaspora changes again. Is a new Latino world being created here, or will Latinos in America assimilate into invisibility? Professor José Villalba of Wake Forest University will lead a postfilm discussion. The program is presented in partnership with N.C. State University Libraries.
The documentary film is from the six-part, NEH-supported award-winning series “Latino Americans,” created for PBS in 2013 by the WETA public television station. The series chronicles the history of Latinos in the United States from the 16th century to present day.

A horse-drawn wagon makes its way onto the Museum grounds carrying a merry troupe of actors, musicians, and dancers. Harking back to a mythical past, the Asheville-based Rural Academy Theater presents an evening of wondrous original theater, music, and shadow puppetry, capped off by the screening of a silent movie classic accompanied by live music. The performances are staged from the wagon.
The Rural Academy Theater has been clip-clopping its way into the hearts of audiences up and down the East Coast. The project is directed by Noah and Gabriel Harrell, who have staged original work around the world.
